Reflection in Action: building healthy communities™ is a citywide competition in visual, written, and performing arts, and a day to celebrate healthy living.

Deadline to enter the 2012 Contest was March 9, 2012 and has passed. Please consider entering the 2013 Contest.

Participants
All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who live in Boston and Cambridge or attend Boston or Cambridge schools, organizations, after school programs, community programs, or religious institutions.

Categories
Visual Art: Painting, Sketches, Photography, Collage, Drawing
Written Art: Poetry, Essay, Short Stories
Performing Art: Skits/Plays, Spoken Word, Dance/Step, Song/Rap, Short Film

Themes
Safety, Healthy Eating, Physical Fitness, Health Disparities, Urban Health Issues, Anti-Violence, Oral Health, Public Health, Heart, Lung, Blood and Kidney Diseases, Sleeping Disorders (examples: obesity, asthma, bullying, diabetes, and more).

Prizes
Contest winners receive cash prizes or gift certificates!

Deadline
All submissions are due March 9, 2012.

Celebration/Event
All contest entrants are invited to attend the Reflection in Action celebration on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Harvard Medical School. All entrants must pre-register and be accompanied by a teacher, parent or chaperone.

Performance category winners may be invited to perform for the entire audience. Winning visual art and written entries will be displayed, and all contest entrants will be recognized.
